Description

Rama vs Ravana – The Final Battle of Lanka is a dramatic Madhubani-inspired painting depicting one of the most powerful moments from the Ramayana—the climactic confrontation between Lord Rama and the mighty king Ravana. Filled with movement, divine symbolism, and epic scale, the artwork captures the eternal struggle between dharma and adharma.

At the upper left, Lord Rama stands firmly upon a rocky height, drawing his bow with complete focus as an arrow flies toward Ravana. A radiant halo surrounds Rama, emphasizing his divine presence and unwavering commitment to righteousness. Nearby, Hanuman stands in support, reinforcing themes of devotion, courage, and loyalty.

On the opposite side, Ravana appears upon an elaborate chariot surrounded by flames, smoke, and turbulent clouds. His multiple crowned heads and many arms symbolize his immense power, knowledge, and formidable nature. Armed with bows and weapons, Ravana faces Rama amid a storm-filled celestial battlefield, creating a striking contrast between disciplined divine purpose and overwhelming worldly power.

The lower section expands the narrative into a vast battlefield filled with warriors, Vanara forces, Rakshasa soldiers, mountains, rivers, bows, and raised weapons. The winding river and rugged landscape guide the eye through the chaos while giving the composition a sense of depth and continuous movement.

Deep blues dominate the mountains, sky, and water, contrasted by fiery orange, gold, red, and yellow accents. Ornamental crowns, stylized figures, strong outlines, and densely arranged narrative details give the artwork a folk-inspired character while preserving the grandeur of the epic.

Beyond its visual drama, the painting symbolizes the triumph of righteousness, courage, discipline, and faith over arrogance and destructive power. It is ideal for Ramayana-themed collections, living rooms, spiritual spaces, cultural interiors, or anyone drawn to Indian mythology and epic storytelling.

Story behind the artwork

This painting portrays the legendary final battle between Lord Rama and Ravana, the culmination of the war in Lanka.

After Ravana abducted Sita, Rama journeyed south with Lakshmana, Hanuman, and the Vanara army to rescue her. Following fierce battles against Ravana’s powerful forces, Rama finally confronted the ten-headed king himself.

Ravana entered the battlefield with enormous strength, magical weapons, and great knowledge gained through years of penance. Yet his arrogance and refusal to return Sita had placed him against dharma. Rama, in contrast, fought not for conquest, but to restore justice and fulfill his duty.

The battle became a confrontation between two extraordinary warriors, with celestial weapons filling the sky. Ultimately, Rama released the decisive divine arrow that defeated Ravana and ended his rule over Lanka.

The scene represents much more than victory in war. Rama’s triumph symbolizes the victory of dharma over adharma, humility over ego, and righteousness over uncontrolled power—one of the central teachings of the Ramayana.
